# Creating a Dashboard Widget

A widget is a dynamic visualization of data. When you create a widget, you select the type of data to display and the type of visualization (chart type).

We recommend starting out with a simple widget and then fine-tuning it through the application of different [widget types](/products/customer-data-platform/treasure-insights/dashboard-widget-types-reference) for Treasure Insights.

We’re going to use a simple example to create a new widget. Let’s assume we want to understand the country distribution by gender.

1. Open a dashboard.
2. Select **+ Select Data**.
3. Select the country and then select gender.
4. Add a title: “Country Distribution”.
5. Click Create.
