# Pausing Real Time Triggered Activations

## Pausing a Real-time Journey

When you pause the live journey, the following occurs:

* **Profiles** : Profiles can still transition to different stages and the journey's goal.
* **Wait steps** : Wait steps are incremented when paused.
* **Activations** : No activations are sent out.
* **Skipped Activations** : For example, profiles will miss the activation for Stage 3 if they move to Stage 3 while the journey is paused. This occurs because the real-time event occurred when the journey was paused.


## Resuming a Real-time Journey

When you resume the live journey, the following occurs:

* **Activations** : When you resume a journey, the journey sends activations immediately if the triggered events have happened.
* **Skipped Activations** : When you resume a journey, the activations will not be sent until the profiles transition to the next stage. For example, because a journey was paused and the profiles skipped the Stage 3 activation, the profile needs to move to Stage 4 to initiate the Stage 4 activation.
