# Creating a Wait Step for a Real Time Journey

A wait step helps you customize a user's experience by defining the cadence of your interactions to ensure optimum engagement.

## Limitations

* You cannot add a wait step after a wait step.
* You cannot add a jump after a wait step.
* You cannot add an end after a wait step.


## Create a Wait Step

1. Open TD Console.
2. Navigate to **Audience Studio**.
3. Navigate to a journey and open it.
4. Select a stage.
5. Select the Wait Step icon in the left panel and drag it to the Journey canvas.

1. Define the wait time (minimum is 1 minute, maximum is 7 days) and then select **Save as draft** or **Launch**.
