# Creating a Decision Point Within a journey stage, you can create a decision point to direct your user down a personalized path. A personalized journey might be based on attributes like High LTV vs. Low LTV or behaviors like Opened Email Offer vs. not opened email offer. Let's use a simple example to create a decision point. Let's assume you have a single profile containing individuals from many countries. Instead of creating a separate journey stage for each geographic area, you can make a decision point that branches into your target paths. ![](/assets/38058751.9479cffa275bbe43f4047bc715936b42ce96d5affd0f82568c51f53d4b43d4be.9e7171ae.png) This topic includes: * [Creating a Decision Point](#add-decision-point) * [Add Decision Point](#add-decision-point) * [Add Conditions](#add-conditions) * [Exclude Profiles](#exclude-profiles) * [Prioritize a Condition](#prioritize-a-condition) * [Add Additional Events](#add-additional-events) # Add Decision Point To avoid potential performance issues, limit the number of events in the Journey Canvas to approximately 34 when there are more than two layers of decision points in the journey. 1. Open TD Console 2. Navigate to **Audience Studio**. 3. Navigate to a journey and open it. 4. Select a **stage**. ![](/assets/creating-a-decision-point-2024-09-06.1a395f46e0ff4274350d5b5d46a7e1942f2c926a77250f018ce20617bf783663.9e7171ae.png) 5. In the left panel, select **Decision point** and drag it to the Journey Canvas. 6. Select **Click to define decision point**. ![](/assets/55181792.9d88210fdea73b5f25ef6f3b44d001617974f0f73b04e5442fd6957ad7ff4890.9e7171ae.png) Each decision point can have at least one condition, up to a maximum of six conditions. There are a maximum of ten decision points per journey. On the right side of the Journey builder, a modal window allows you to change the number of conditions displayed. By default, two conditions are shown. Select the number dropdown to create a single decision point, then select 1. ![](/assets/83510791.1b67f029a8d57760bbe7b9c1e7191d1028e573bbc6f3f3b09d32a30ccaeeabeb.9e7171ae.png) The number of decision paths determines how many conditions you can add to your decision point. 1. Select each condition icon and [set a rule](/products/customer-data-platform/journey-orchestration/batch/creating-stage-rules-for-batch-journey) for the condition a profile needs to meet to follow that path. For example, does the profile reside in the USA or Canada? 2. Select the plus icon to add another event. ![](/assets/55181798.d2bfe74dbcaa4ef2e29fde909e051f6001966909918d6ae022578b6cbd082edd.9e7171ae.png) # Add Conditions Let's add four conditions, one for each country. ![](/assets/55181907.18753b5ee48e818568ea3e1ee4397578d95d7c48f37c10fd70a8ce1cdbcd096b.9e7171ae.png) 1. For the number of decision paths, select 4. 2. Include a condition to catch excluded profiles (recommended). 3. Select the first condition. ![](/assets/55181908.187930adee54fd340eacce6b5a88e95f62e856998e1f126fd7ee1b865f7364d0.9e7171ae.png) ![](/assets/55181909.3aa2818c2427d73ee2c35e39286aac289c4490eb865b271ea7ab24441b037e4a.9e7171ae.png) 1. Name your condition. ![](/assets/55181910.ead31bb7a89cdd00fab206e528e143cc7714561abb638dc3ba34e9f6c11c1e74.9e7171ae.png) 1. Select Save condition. 2. Continue to add more conditions to include Canada, UK, and Japan. 3. Click **Save as draft**. # Exclude Profiles ![](/assets/55181907.18753b5ee48e818568ea3e1ee4397578d95d7c48f37c10fd70a8ce1cdbcd096b.9e7171ae.png) Toggle the **Catch excluded profiles?** to manage your journey workload. If you do not include the **Catch excluded profiles?** condition and the profile does not meet any of the conditions; the profile does not progress further in the path in the respective stage. However, it can move to any following stage by meeting the entry criteria of the following stages. # Prioritize a Condition You can drag a condition into a different position to prioritize it above others. 1. Select the plus sign and drag the condition up to move a condition. If a profile qualifies for multiple decision points, TD Journey Orchestration moves it to one decision point—the highest personalized path. # Add Additional Events Continue to add more events after your decision point. For example, you can add an activation and a wait step. You can add one more decision point to the current stage. **Next Step:** [Create a Merge](/products/customer-data-platform/journey-orchestration/batch/creating-a-merge) See also [Journey FAQs](/products/customer-data-platform/journey-orchestration/batch/journey-faqs).
