The Segment Insights Dashboard allows you to visualize the metrics of your market segments while you're building out the segment rules. With the Segment Insights Dashboard, you can view and (with permission) modify segment definitions.
You can select defining criteria for a segment (if you have Full Control permission). For example, women who have bought product x in the last 3 months.
Segment Insights Dashboard helps you visualize how specific key attributes affect the size and distribution of a targeted segment. For example, in a segment of 10,000, looking at women in the US vs. women in Japan might show different percentages of women over 40.
The Segment Insights Dashboard shows you how each characteristic affects the segment's size and makeup. This helps you understand how to tailor your marketing effort to best reach a given segment. Each Segment Insights Dashboard can include up to 10 widgets that illustrate a segment characteristic with an appropriate graphic.

Segment Insights Widgets are attributes you can configure to view analytics about your segment or combination of segments. With each dashboard, you can display up to 10 customizable widgets.

The widgets in your Segment Insights dashboard are determined by the attribute selection you configure. The following table outlines how attribute selection determines which widgets are available to use.
| Attribute Type | Calculation Type | Chart Type |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Distribution |
|
| Distinct Count | Indicator | |
| Numerical | Distribution |
|
| Sum, Average | Indicator | |
| Distinct Count | Indicator | |
| Array | Distribution | Ranking (Top 10) |
Based on the selected attributes, a calculation type is determined by the attribute's data type, whether it's categorical or numerical. The chart type is then determined based on the calculation type selected, from which you may choose the distribution, sum, or average.
Chart types that exceed the limits for the display are identified and categorized together. For example:
- When column chart type distributions exceed six, the remaining distributions are displayed as "Others".
- When pie chart type for the top five percentage distributions are exceeded, the remaining distributions are displayed as "Others".

Histogram statistics calculated are approximate.
- Due to the histogram function and the UDF in Presto, there is a possibility that some customers may notice some values are missing from the histogram.
In some cases, number values may be too small to visualize and may require the inspector in your browser to see all the values under "segment_insights_queries."
Account owners and administrators define and control the TD policies and permissions. Users can have either Full Control, allowing them to create and modify segment definitions; or View permission, allowing read-only access to currently configured segments. (Learn more about Policies and Permissions.)
The following table lists the actions enabled by each permission.
- To configure Segment Insights Dashboards
- User needs to have "All Folders and Segments: Full Control" permission
- To view Segment Insights Dashboards in the Segment Editor
- Users can see dashboards if they have the “Full” permission for the specific segment folders. Having 'View' permission only is not sufficient
The following table describes the permission options for Segment Insights Dashboards.
| Permission Option | Description |
|---|---|
To Configure Dashboards: Full Control | To configure Segment Insights Dashboards
|
To View Dashboards | To view Segment Insights Dashboards in the Segment Editor
|
| Cannot Configure or View Dashboards | User has All Folders View only permission
|
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in Segment Insights. Segments are organized hierarchically. Even if a user has full control permissions for the root folder of a parent segment or a specific folder, if the user's PII-hiding setting is set to PII/Block for any of the attributes, the corresponding charts in the Segment Insights dashboard will not be displayed.
