# Creating a Batch Segment

A [parent segment](/products/customer-data-platform/data-workbench/parent-segments/creating-parent-segments) must exist before you can create a batch segment.

Create a batch segment for more targeted campaigns and analytics.

1. Open TD Console.
2. Navigate to Audience Studio.

1. Using the drop-down, select the Parent segment from which you want to create a segment.

1. There are two options available to create a batch segment:


* Create a batch segment and add rules without saving the segment. You might want to do this to answer ad-hoc analytics questions.
* Create a batch segment, name and save it and then add rules.


## Create a Batch Segment for Ad-hoc Analytics

Choose one of the following:

* Right-click the parent segment and select **Create new Batch Segment**. Add segment rules and optionally select **Save**.

* Select a Parent Segment. Select the ellipses and then select **Create New Batch Segment**. Add segment rules and optionally select **Save**.

To exit the segment editor, select X, Cancel, or the ESC key.

### Create and Save a Batch Segment; Add Rules

1. Select **Create New** , name your segment, and select a Segment Type of Batch. Select **Create**.

1. Select **Edit segment rules** and add rules. Select **Save**.


To exit the segment editor, select X, Cancel, or the ESC key.
