Create Batch Segment Rules

After creating a segment, you can create rule sets to refine the segment:

  • Apply one rule or multiple rules.
  • Create custom rules using advanced match logic.
  • Create multiple rule sets and apply them using advanced match logic.
  • Add drag-on rules. (Drag-on rules must be enabled in the Parent Segment.)

Individual rules are categorized by Attributes, Behaviors, Group Attributes, Group Behaviors, Existing Segments, Funnel Stage, and A/B variants.

Rule TypeDescription
A/B VariantA predefined rule set for up to 5 variants of the same segment.
AttributesPredefined characteristics of the customer such as age, email, gender, etc.
BehaviorsPredefined behaviors of the customer such as page views, purchases, etc.
Existing SegmentsA predefined rule set used for another segment
FunnelStageA predefined rule set for stages of an existing Funnel
Group AttributesPredefined characteristics of the “group” that customers (or profiles) belong to. For example, if you were to consider a group as an account, then group attributes might be things like company name, number of employees, annual revenue, etc.
Group BehaviorsPredefined behaviors of the group such as page views. These would be behaviors that relate to the group as a container, not customer or profile-based data.

Group Attributes and Group Behaviors are only available if a hierarchical group has been defined for the parent segment.

Creating Batch Segment Rules

  1. Open TD Console.
  2. Navigate to Audience Studio and select the segment for which you want to create rules.
  3. Select Edit segment rules.
  4. Rules are listed in the right-side menu by category. Select the sort icon to sort attributes and behaviors alphabetically. To add a rule, select or drag it into the rule-set space.

Use the operators at the top of the list to compare numbers. String comparison operators are at the bottom of the list.

  1. Scroll down to review existing behavior rules. Choose a behavior rule and select it or drag it to the rule. Select the filter for the behavior, and then select a value from the dropdown. Select the count, operator, and value, and then set the time frame.

  1. For any existing segment and funnel stage rules, drag the category into the rule space. Select include or exclude and select the segment or funnel stage.
