# Create a Real Time Segment

This article explains how to create a real-time segment.

## Limitations

* Real-time segments cannot use Group Attributes and Group Behaviors (see [About Parent Segments that Support Hierarchical Grouping](/products/customer-data-platform/data-workbench/parent-segments/about-parent-segments-that-support-hierarchical-grouping)).


## Prerequisites

* A [parent segment](/products/customer-data-platform/data-workbench/parent-segments/creating-parent-segments) must exist before you can create a real-time segment.
* A [behavior table](/products/customer-data-platform/data-workbench/parent-segments/creating-parent-segments#behavior-tables) must be set up in the parent segment.
* You must have [Website Tracking](/products/customer-data-platform/integration-hub/streaming/td-javascript-sdk/getting-started-with-website-tracking) configured on your website.


## Create a Real-time Segment

1. Open TD Console.
2. Navigate to Audience Studio.

1. Using the drop-down, select the Parent Segment from which you want to create a segment.

1. Select Create New.

1. The Create New dialog opens. Select Segment. Select Real-time for Segment Type.

1. Name the segment and select Create.
2. Select X, Cancel, or the ESC key to exit the segment editor.
