Activation Template Overview

Marketers might find creating an activation challenging because they have to enter technical information they might not have access to or know of. This can lead to activations failing due to misconfigurations.

Treasure Data solves this problem with the Activation Template. The Activation Template provides benefits for both data engineers and marketers:

  • Data engineers : Create templates with pre-populated and locked fields that help marketers create activations correctly.
  • Marketers: Create activations to enhance campaigns with pre-populated data fields.

Supported Activation Templates

You can create the following types of activation templates:

  • Batch activation templates : Export segment data and segment stages.
  • Batch journey activation templates : Export journey data and journey stages.

Activation Template Limitations

  • Batch journey activation templates do not support exporting behavior columns.
  • Treasure Data supports up to 1,000 child activations per template.
    • This limit ensures templates remain reliable and manageable.
    • What this means
      • Templates with more than 1,000 activations may fail to update, especially if they contain many locked attributes, string columns, or complex behavior column settings.
      • For long-term stability, we recommend splitting activations across multiple templates.
      • Existing templates above the threshold should be renamed (e.g., “Do-Not-Use”) and replaced with new templates under the 1,000 limit.
    • Best practices
      • Keep each template under 1,000 activations.
      • Simplify template structure where possible.
      • Use multiple templates if larger scale is needed.

Permission Requirements

The Activation Template supports the following types of permissions:
