Only administrators can create, edit, and delete tags. Default system tags cannot be edited. Database permissions affect an administrator's ability to manage tags. Before you create or change tags, review Understanding Access Control for Tags.
- Each tag name can contain up to 128 bytes.
- Only an administrator with database policy-based permissions disabled or enabled can create both resource and policy tags.
- An administrator can create up to 1000 tags per account.
- You can add a maximum of 20 tags per table.
- Administrators cannot change a tag name or type after its creation.
This topic includes:
Open TD Console.
Navigate to Control Panel.
Select Security > Tag Management.
Select Add Tag.

Complete the form using the following parameter guidance and select Save.
Name
- Enter a descriptive name for the tag so you can easily identify its purpose.
Description
- Provide additional information to expand on the tag name you previously described.
- Additionally, provide information about the tag color to include additional details.
Type
- Policy Tag
- Control which individuals (and groups) can access a column via a policy.
- Each column can contain one policy tag only.
- Resource Tag
- Annotate columns and user-defined workflows to more efficiently search for data. Workflows support resource tags only.
Color
- Assign a color to quickly identify a tag category, for example, Resource or PII.

- The tag's name.
You can assign any color to a policy or resource tag, regardless of the description.
- Open TD Console.
- Navigate to Control Panel.
- Select Security > Tag Management.
- Select an existing tag.
- Select Edit tag.
- Select the pencil icon.
You cannot change the tag name or the tag type. However, you can either add or remove a description and change the tag color.
There are four tabs associated with the tag:
- Details : The tag name, description, type, and preview.
- Columns : A list of columns that are using the tag.
- Policies : A list of policies that are using the tag. All policies are hyperlinked. Select a policy to review it.
- Workflows : A list of workflows (at the project and workflow level) that are using the tag.
The Details tab is the only tab in which you can make changes.
- Select Save to save your changes.
- Open TD Console.
- Navigate to Control Panel.
- Select Security > Tag Management.
- Select an existing tag.
- Select ... in the right pane and select Delete Tag.

Treasure Data prevents an administrator from deleting a tag if it is being referenced by a policy. The following is an example of this error.
