# About Tags Treasure Data's tags allow you to provide additional security surrounding access to private or sensitive data. ## Using Column Tags The ability to create a tag to describe columns that contain a specific type of information (for example, personal identifiable information, finance, sensitive, and so on). With column tags, you can manage and monitor the usage of tagged data and drill down into a database or table that contains the tag of interest. Column tags use Treasure Data's policy-based permissions to ensure the protection of your data and your customers: * Create a policy to allow users applied to a policy to access all columns except those tagged with specific tags (for example, the PII tag). * Create a policy to restrict users to access only those tagged with a specific tag (for example, a Finance tag). * Search for columns with research and policy tags. * Search for resource tags to identify workflows. * Review how tags are used in security policies. ## Tags Workflow ![](/assets/image2022-6-28_14-28-59.9bc040bbd3bf8a5f0f7d434ac2c44f424640bcff5dff82a65c9c15ac44a4ef08.9f549006.png) | Step | Additional Information | | --- | --- | | **1** | Only administrators can create tags: **Policy tags** : A tag to be used in a database permissions policy. | | **2** | Each column can have one policy tag and one or more resource tags.
