Tableau Desktop For Mac

This integration is experimental. The behavior is not guranteed. - 2024/10/01 Presto ODBC is no longer supported. Use Trino/Presto JDBC Driver instead.

Using Tableau Desktop on Mac with Treasure Data allows users to interactively explore data using Presto.

Prerequisites

Considerations

Compatibility between the Trino and Tableau JDBC package isn’t guaranteed when Treasure Data Trino is upgraded. We recommend that you use Tableau Server Export Integration for production systems because the connector requires regular updates of data sources.

Install JDBC Driver for Mac

Download Trino JDBC Driver.

To install the Mac driver for Trino, complete the following steps:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download the driver from the Download link.
  3. Click the downloaded file.
  4. Place the .jar files in the folder for your operating system. (You need to create the folder if it doesn't already exist.)
    1. Mac: ~/Library/Tableau/Drivers
  5. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Presto.

Make the Connection

Start Tableau. Click Connect > Presto

For a complete list of data connections, click To a Server > More.

Then complete the following steps:

  1. Enter Presto JDBC/ODBC Gateway server: Presto/Trino Endpoints
  2. Enter the port: 443
  3. Enter the catalog name; td-trino
  4. Select the Authentication method: Username
  5. Enter the Username: Use your master APIKEY-- Get APIKEY
  6. Select the Require SSL check box.
  7. Select Sign In.

If Tableau cannot complete the connection, verify that your credentials are correct.

Setup the Data Source

On the data source page, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the default data source name at the top of the page, and then enter a unique data source name for use in Tableau.
  2. From the Schema drop-down list, select the search icon or enter the schema name in the text box and select the search icon.
  3. Select the schema.
  4. In the Table text box, select the search icon or enter the table name and select the search icon.
  5. Select the table.
  6. Drag the table to the canvas.
  7. Select the sheet tab to start your analysis.

Advanced Tips

Change the Time Column’s Data Type

After connecting to the table, you’ll find a “time” field in the “Measures” “time” field is unixtime data as a default. You can drag and drop the time field data to “Dimensions” and change the data type to “Date & time”:
