Announcement Pig’s End of Life

We would like to let you know that our Pig querying engine is going to be deprecated starting on November 1st, 2016.

In order to maximize our ability to deliver great functionalities quickly we have, from time to time, to decide to deprecate features and functionalities that are not too popular – that is the case with our Pig querying engine. Deprecating the Pig engine will allow us to focus more on improving Hive/Presto to become more scalable, realiable, extensible, and generally simpler to use, maintain, and support.

We already confirmed that none of our current customers uses Pig for mission critical querying. Going forward, please consider not relying on Pig queries any longer.

Starting November 1st, 2016 we will no longer support the Pig engine and it will be dropped shortly thereafter:

  • The Web Console will no longer offer Pig as an engine option;
  • The td CLI will no longer accept Pig queries;
  • The REST API will return an error/exception if the user attempt to use Pig for a query.

Thanks for your patience and understanding during this transition. We’re continuously working to improve your experience working with the Treasure Data Service.
